UTP Offered ‘JAVA Training Program for Anak Perak 2008




In line with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS’s academic philosophy of participating actively in consultancy work as well as assisting those in need, Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS), in collaboration with KPerak Implementation and Coordination (INC) Corporation and Perak State Department of Education had conducted a 6 days training programme. The ‘JAVA Training Programme For Anak Perak 2008’ was held to train secondary school students from all over Perak, the latest technology in JAVA programming language. This training which is under the ANAK PERAK 2008 program was carried out by 10 in-house qualified trainers comprising of UTP lecturers from Department of Computer and Information Sciences championed by Dr Ahmad Kamil Mahmood and led by Mr. Izzatdin Abdul Aziz.




A total of 200 participants consisted of 160 students and 40 teachers have successfully completed the training, which was held from 12 - 17 June 2008.

Apart from the training, participants were also involved in motivational talks, energetic activities and ICT awareness programme handled and facilitated by CIS lecturers as well as 40 UTP CIS Students Club members known as Syntech Organisation.






This consultancy effort is part of K-Perak 2010 initiative spearheaded by the KPerak INC with the direction of Perak state government, in order to cater for sufficient demand of skilled ICT workers in Perak by 2010. As a continuation of this programme, the JAVA Programming Competition 2008 for secondary schools at state level will be held in July to test the creativity and programming skills acquired by the participants during this training period
